    Hello, everyone!

It has been awhile since my last post – working 6 or 7 days is draining all my energy (as well as my ability to think long enough to complete an intelligent post…lol) So, I took advantage of having a rare day off work and decided to update my blog…

The weather here in East Tennessee has been a bit on the weird side: from temps of 72F one day straight to freezing rain and snow. So, just to keep my soul warmed, I started to think Spring and Summer, fresh green leaves and beach sand…

The above card, “Beach Lighthouse” is one of the newest additions to my Etsy shop, and can be found here. Its summertime companions, “Beach Cabin” and “Beach Tent” can be be also viewed here and here. As most of my work, the cards were created using 14ct perforated paper, only I have used ecru colored paper this time around – it looked so much closed to sand…

Well, I’m off now to tend to my badly swollen, sprained ankle… Hopefully, I will be able to walk by tomorrow…

We can’t all sparkle…

I do love interactive cards! I love receiving them, as I know they will always put a big smile on my face as I discover all the “tricks” they can do… As I grew up, there were not too many cards like that in Romania, and yet my dad used to get his hands on one, once in a while… That magical memory pops up its head every time I open a Hallmark card that “does” things… LOL

However, as much I love those cards I am a complete failure at creating them. No tutorial can help my mostly logical brain visualize how a “waterfal” card should work or one that has characters rolling from one end of the card to the other… So far, in my two years since I have started to create paper cards, the best I could do was the “mountain & valley” kind of cards, the type that a message is adhered in such a way that one can read it when the card is fully open, more or less…

So here is “Sparkle“… I really loved the message it offers: “We can’t all be stars, but we can sparkle…” (front cover),

“All I need is one star in the sky, to wish for you everyday!” (inside of card)

The card was created with yellow and navy cardstock, hand stamped with solid and outline stars. I cannot remember the provenience of the diecuts, most likely from a kit… I guess it turned out OK 😉

In my Heart…

One category of cards I don’t really have enough of is male geared cards… A few days ago, sifting and re-organizing my “Listed Cards” box, I’ve seen lots of flowers and lace, pearls and lots of frou-frou, but besides a couple of “Father’s Day” cards not many masculine cards… Now, we all have a husband, boyfriend, father brother – or just a male friend that has an upcoming birthday… Or maybe we just want to say Thank You to the guy next door that helped us change the flat tire last weekend… Well, you get the idea…

So, I’ve decided to work and list some “manly” cards in my shop in the next couple of weeks. I’ve started working on them last weekend, but I was less than a week after my carpal tunnel and lateral epicondylitis in my left wrist and elbow and I was not as productive as I expected myself to be.

However, I did finish and list one of the cards, “In my Heart“. The card was hand stamped on kraft cardstock and layered on dark chocolate-brown. One of my favorite Stampin’ Up DSP, Mocha Morning, has been used to accent the kraft cardstock base, as well as the card band. A perfect card for the man in your life, to let him know he is in your mind always… The card is a standard A2 (4 1/4 in by 5 1/2 in) and it comes with a cream envelope. The cream insert was left blank, ready for your added thoughts and sentiments…

Supplies are all Stampin’ Up, unless otherwise noted: Cardstock Crumb Cake #120953, Early Expresso #119686; DSP Mocha Morning #122366; Ink Early Expresso #119670; Stamps Word Play #120651; Punch Ticket Corner #119867; Envelope Very Vanilla #107300; Accessories copper brads, snail adhesive.

Yin & Yang Bookmark

Yin is soft while Yang is hard.
Yin is stillness while Yang is movement.
The moon is Yin while the sun is Yang.
Woman is Yin while Man is Yang.
Mountain is Yin while the river is Yang.
Intuitive is Yin while Logical is Yang.
Winter is Yin while Summer is Yang and so on.

The ancient Chinese subscribe to a concept called Yin Yang which is a belief that there exist two complementary forces in the universe. One is Yang which represents everything positive or masculine and the other is Yin which is characterized as negative or feminine. One is not better than the other. Instead they are both necessary and a balance of both is highly desirable.

This thinking is different from the duality of most religion where one state overcomes the other e.g. good over evil. In the concept of Yin Yang, too much of either one is bad. The ideal is a balance of both. The hot Saharan desert for example is an example of extreme Yang while the bitter cold Antarctica is extreme Yin. Neither is desirable.

     Stitching time: approx. 10hrs

The backing of the bookmark is white sticker paper and it allows you to write a dedication or a few meaningful words. The size is an approximate 2.75in by 6.5in. The bookmark comes in a handmade, slimline white envelope, with a Velcro or ribbon closure. This bookmark was created in a smoke and pet free environment.

Mocha Morning Card Folio

A restless night, a bit too much caffeine resulted in this new Mocha Morning Card Folio. The six cards it contains are styled for both women and men, though I would not dare to send any man I know any card that has a pearl on it – hence the metallic copper brads… lol…

Here are the first two feminine cards cards, “Just for You” and “Happy Birthday”. The flocked DSP is simply stunning!

One feminine and one masculine cards, “Love you much” and “Celebrate Today”. Though it has a bit of flourishes, the “Perfectly Penned” stamp set works even on a man’s card…

The last two cards in the folio are both masculine cards, “Get Well” and “Thank You”. The metallic sheen DSP looks so very classy against the Early Expresso CS, doesn’t it…?

The last photo shows the card folio closed. Lots of CS and DSP have gone to the way of the trach can before I came up with a folio that was satisfactory… And of course, after the folio was complete, I have realized I could have made some changes for a much better result – but I was quite tired by that point and stopped…

For a better view of the individual cards, feel free to check out my Flickr “Mocha Morning Card Folio“.

Supplies used are Stampin’ Up, unless otherwise noted: Cardstock Very Vanilla #101650, Early Expresso #119686, Crumb Cake #120953, Basic Black #121045; DSP Mocha Morning #122366; Ink Early Expresso #119670; Stamps Perfectly Penned #122892, Well Scripted, Afterthoughts (Hostess set) ; Accessories Basic Pearls #119247, Snail Adhesive #104332, Decorative Label Punch #120907, brads.

With Love

Autumn Love

Happy Labor Day everyone! I hope you are enjoying the extra day off, if you got it…

It was not a very productive weekend, not as far as paper crafting is concerned. I did work on – and finished – a couple of cross-stitch cards, which I’ll have to take photos of in the morning (outside, if weather permitting or inside, if it rains…) Then, I’ll have to transfer some of my stamping stuff from the open bins they are in now into the stackable boxes I got from Wal-Mart the other day. That should free up a bottom shelf, where I am planning to put the milk crates with the stamping kits and designer paper packs.

Only problem with my planning is that my weird sleep patterns always kick in the morning… And I’m still yet to take the Ambien my doctor prescribed, in an attempt to “reset” my sleep patterns, so that I will sleep at least 6 hrs in one block of time, rather than have it fragmented in 3 or 4 blocks… I have not slept 6 continuous  hrs since my daughter was born, almost 29 years ago… LOL… S, I’ll give the sleeping pills a try starting Tuesday morning after I come home from work – and see how it works for me…

I’ll leave you with the second one of my autumn cards, “With Love”. You can check  out this new listing in my Etsy shop. I hope you’ve enjoyed your visit today – see you later!

Congrats/Mocha Morning DSP

I should be doing laundry… I should be cleaning up my craft table so I can do some work… I should – at least – have some decent breakfast (Pretzel Crisps & coffee not exactly on any trendy nutritional list, I’m told)… Instead, I have been reading my email, particularly my Craft Gossip – and finding some awesome crafts ideas there!  And then, there’s my “once in a blue moon” blogging… In my defense though (not that I need any excuses for the weird ways I do things on my weekends…), I did work overtime last night and after 8 hrs of production, a gal does need some relaxation – and some Mayfield’s Extreme Moose Tracks, of course…

    But I digress…

As I have said in my previous post, I fell in love with the gorgeous Mocha Morning, one of the newest Stampin’ Up! DSPs. I have already ordered 2 more packs yesterday, when I did my order for the “Buy 3, Get 1 FREE” exclusive DSP promotion. “Mocha Morning is not part of this promotion, but it does not really matter – a girl needs to stock up on lovely things…

I have a fresh pot of coffee waiting on me, Jim is visiting Aunt Doris in Ten Mile (send him off with a couple of cards for her to use whenever she needs to…), I got a load of laundry in the washing machine – and I’m getting ready to work on my friend’s Connie challenge, which you can check out here Highdesert Stamper’s “Hey there friend“, and if you are a cardmaker why not give it a go…?

Supplies are Stampin’ Up!, unless otherwise noted: Cardstock: Soft Suede #115318, Crumb Cake #120953, Very Vanilla #101650; Designer Paper: Mocha Morning #122366; Ink: Crumb Cake #121030, Early Expresso #119670; Stamps: Think Big Favorites & Turning a New Leaf (Papertrey Ink); Accessories: Scallop Trim Border #118402, 5/8″ Satin Ribbon inVery Vanilla #117291, 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon in Soft Suede #122967.
