Folded Mini Album/Journal

A while back, on a sleepless weekend night,  I have decided to try to create something a bit different from just a regular card. I have started with a luminary with hand stamped and colored vellum panels, but after getting almost everything cut, colored and ready, I’ve put it aside… That project is still gathering dust today; maybe I will complete it while I am recovering from surgery…

The second project I have started that night was a folded “Mini Album or Journal“… I had some Stampin’ Up textured cardstock in Always Artichoke and decided to work with that color as a base for the mini album and its coordinating box. Then, the hunt for coordinating pattern papers started… Anyone who took a peek inside my craft room becomes quickly aware of the huge amount of “goodies” packed in that room… I did – ever so briefly – considered getting rid of some of those items, but I could not decide what should go and what should stay… So, I am keeping it all!

     But I’ve digressed…

After about 90min of looking through all my pattern papers, I have final decided on three patterns that were muted enough for my taste and worked well with each other… So I started with a template that I had to rework and resize; then I had to decide on what pattern papers would work best on the inside pages (where I had envisioned photos and even journaling…)  The cream and light olive seemed perfect, especially layered on the funky rustic plaid! The front of the Mini Album got the muted, rusty stripes…

As for the box that the Mini Album goes into, creating that simple item seemed to be the biggest challenge: the measurements were off, the folds were less than crisp, the Tacky Tape would find its way on the wrong side of the template… Quite frustrating, until I realized I was completely caffeine deprived! A fresh pot of java perked my brain right up, and the Mini Album/Journal and its box were finished and done before sunrise! And I had to embellish that box a bit, without adding lots of bulk and weight, so I have added a strip of patterned paper that I’ve punched with a Scalloped Doily punch…

Bit new and different for me, as well as out of my comfort zone – but what would life be without a personal challenge every now and then…?!

Hope you have enjoyed your stay… Happy weekend!

52 Weeks of Mail

Hello, everyone! It’s so good to be back home, after a brief hospital stay – my very first since the birth of my son, almost 28 years ago… Not too happy with the discomfort (who would be, I wonder…), and having to walk around holding on to my belly is hardly qualifying as “atractive”, but I am home, I did well and I am recovering a bit each day… But I’m digressing…

You might not know, but World Post Day is coming October 9th, marking the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s establishment in 1874. The union aimed to create and maintain a structure for the free flow of international mail around the world.

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE receiving mail the old fashioned way. Not that I don’t enjoy the Internet, or find that the speed of email is effective and useful at some point – but I am thrilled when I get my mail from the box and find a bit more that bills and/or junk mail… A greeting card or a personal note, it makes me feel… special. Anything handwritten is a deeply personal and involved activity, as a bit of yourself is shared with many others, that share themselves with you… Maybe that is why I love Christmas so much 🙂

The Etsy Greetings Team, a collection of over 100 artists from all over the globe who collaborate to promote the art and craft of card making, is celebrating World Post Day by issuing a challenge that we are calling 52 Weeks of Mail. This idea sprung from one member’s desire to keep in touch better with friends and loved ones, and to be intentional about relationships. The idea is for people to commit to sending at least one personal note, card, letter, or postcard to people they know, once a week for a year. Of course, you can send MORE than one, but that’s up to you. Just think how happy this will make the Postal Services around to the world—not to mention those old friends!!

Here are three ways you can participate: read full article here.

My friend

My friend

It has been awhile since I have worked on any kind of challenge, most likely due to lack of playing time. However, when I’ve received a blog update from my friend Connie of Highdesert Stamper – Artistic Inkspirations, I was going to work on a card no matter what 😉

The challenge was to use Stampin’ Up! stamp set My friend. Now, this new stamp set is from the 2011 Idea Book & Catalog – and a fresh favorite of many stampers from what I hear… For good reason, too – I love the size of the “Hello” sentiment… LOL… The sentiment panel was created on my computer, as I could not find any Friendship quotations in any of my large collection of stamps – so I had to improvise 😉

Thank you for stopping by, and don’t forget to leave a comment!

Supplies are Stampin’ Up! unless otherwise noted: Cardstock Island Indigo #122923, Natural White #102316, Very Vanilla #101650; Stamp My friend clear #122587; Ink Island Indigo #122937; Accessories 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon in Whisper White #109070, clear jewels (Making Memories), adhesive.

Almost a Challenge…

Missed opportunity… lol

I’ve started this card almost a week ago, failing to mark down on my paper the due date… Of course, I’ve missed posting it in time, but I’m not really surprised as I am not really able to work on much after 8 hrs of production work… However, I kind of liked how the card turned out, so I’ll post it anyways 😉

I do have to tell you: I love the new SU! colors, with Wisteria Wonder, Indigo Island and Pool Party quick favorites. I inked the seam binding with Pool Party, but left it a bit blotchy to give it just a hint of tie dye. The stamp was pressed into the Pool Party ink pad, then I added just a hint of Indigo Island on the flowers to accent them. Added the pearls to the centers, and was done! But done too late and the challenge was closed… I’ll try to be on time next time around, work schedule permitting 🙂

Natural White #102316, Pool Party & Indigo Island (new colors, available in the upcoming “2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog”), Whisper White #100730; Ink Pool Party & Indigo Island (again, new color releases); Stamps Happy Greetings #123313 ( in the Summer Mini Catalog), Just Believe #120453, En Francais #109521; Ribbon Seam Binding in Baja Breeze #122331; Basic Pearls Jewel Accents #119247; Punch Decorative Label #120907; Adhesive.

Color Inspiration #158 Challenge

This week’s Color Inspirations on Stamping 411 was a real mental workout for me, as I do not usually create/design in bold, bright colors. So, I just had to give it a try and see if I could wrap my brain around the chosen colors of Real Red, Peach Parfait, Certainly Celery and So Saffron.

   My card result…

I had to laugh when Jim took a look at the card, then at me, then at the card and quietly commented: “These are NOT your colors, love… Must be one of them color recipes you’re doing…?”  The man sure knows me very well… LOL…

Supplies used are Stampin’ Up: Cardstock Whisper White #100730, So Saffron #105118, Peach Parfait #119794, Real Red #102482; Stamps Fabulous Florets #123025, Well Scripted, Four Frames; Ink Real Red #103133, Certainly Celery #105217, VersaFine Vintage Sepia (Tsukineko); Punch Designer Label #120907, Lace (Martha Stewart);Ribbon 1/8″ Taffeta  Real Red #119251; 3D foam; mini glue dots; Cuttlebug embossing folder; Markers.

CR84FN30 – Color Challenge

CR84FN30 Color Challenge

This week’s challenge on CR84FN was to use the Main colors of light blue, light yellow and kraft provided by the suggested graphic.

My card started with a lovely piece of lace i bought a few months ago from Melissa Frances. The lace was bright white and, in order to make it work with the color requirements, I decided to “antique” it, by placing it in a small ziploc baggie with a drop of Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks in Old Paper and Antique Lines and a few sprays of water, diluted until the color was what I was aiming for. Cardbase is kraft and a panel from K & Company‘s Life’s Journey pad was cut and edges distressed with Distress inks. I punched three strips of pattern paper in a bluish script paper and a dotted weathered yellow and layered them on the printed panel. The died antique lace was gathered and glue behind the hand stamped sentiment panel (Eternity from Our Daily Bread Designs) and #D foam dots were used to add it to the card. Self-adhesive pearls were added around the sentiment panel.

Supplies used are as indicated: Stamp set/Die Eternity (Our Daily Bread Designs & Spellbinders); Cardstock Crumb Cake #120953, Whisper White #100730(Stampin’ Up), Designer paper Butterfly Garden (PinkPaislee), 5th Avenue (Melissa Frances), Life’s Journey (K & Company); Ink Old Olive #102277 (Stampin’ Up); Punch Martha Stewart; Lace (Melissa Frances); Pearls self-adhesive (Mark Richards); 3D foam dots; mini glue dots; Distress Ink Old Paper & Antique Lines (Ranger/Tim Holtz)
