Some days are for doing…

marbles

Some days aren’t for talking or wondering. They’re not for dreaming, seeking, meandering or procrastinating.

Some days are for doing, like today.

What are you going to do, change, learn, find, proclaim, invest or manifest?

Golden Quill…

One of my favorite past times is cross-stitching, which I have learned at my grandma’s knee – as the saying goes… It is my “thing” when I am too tired to read or sleep, it is what keeps my hands busy as I watch (or rather listen…) the TV… I love collecting all kinds of lovely cross-stitch patterns from specialty magazines or websites, even if I am aware that I might never get to bring most of them to life… What can I say, I love cross-stitching…

A while back, one of my acquisitions was a set of patterns, one for a tall stack of hardcover books the other one this “Golden Quill” and inkwell. The soft colors, the blending of colors, the exquisite result – it all appealed to me… Now, it took me a good time to finish it – about 15hrs –  but I always felt that a good result comes from careful attention to all details. A few loving words can be written on the back of the bookmark, on the white sticker paper that finishes it. Regular envelopes are either too big or too small, or simply unsightly, so most of my bookmarks have handmade slimline envelopes…

I hope you’ve enjoyed your visit and that you will stop by again…

A Friend Cross-Stitched Bookmark

One of my favorite things to cross-stitch on 14ct perforated paper are bookmarks. Though lately I have not had that much time to read as I did in the past, I still love cross-stitching bookmarks – for those little bookworms everywhere 🙂

I particularly love those bookmark patterns with a stitched saying; is as in giving someone a bookmark with a lil’ saying on it is giving a small reminder that you keep thinking about that person – everyday… So here is one of my favorites, “A Friend…”  Bright and colorful, uniquely shaped and stitched with the utmost love and care for detail…

     I hope you like it!

52 Weeks of Mail

Hello, everyone! It’s so good to be back home, after a brief hospital stay – my very first since the birth of my son, almost 28 years ago… Not too happy with the discomfort (who would be, I wonder…), and having to walk around holding on to my belly is hardly qualifying as “atractive”, but I am home, I did well and I am recovering a bit each day… But I’m digressing…

You might not know, but World Post Day is coming October 9th, marking the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s establishment in 1874. The union aimed to create and maintain a structure for the free flow of international mail around the world.

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE receiving mail the old fashioned way. Not that I don’t enjoy the Internet, or find that the speed of email is effective and useful at some point – but I am thrilled when I get my mail from the box and find a bit more that bills and/or junk mail… A greeting card or a personal note, it makes me feel… special. Anything handwritten is a deeply personal and involved activity, as a bit of yourself is shared with many others, that share themselves with you… Maybe that is why I love Christmas so much 🙂

The Etsy Greetings Team, a collection of over 100 artists from all over the globe who collaborate to promote the art and craft of card making, is celebrating World Post Day by issuing a challenge that we are calling 52 Weeks of Mail. This idea sprung from one member’s desire to keep in touch better with friends and loved ones, and to be intentional about relationships. The idea is for people to commit to sending at least one personal note, card, letter, or postcard to people they know, once a week for a year. Of course, you can send MORE than one, but that’s up to you. Just think how happy this will make the Postal Services around to the world—not to mention those old friends!!

Here are three ways you can participate: read full article here.

For some wonderful greeting cards, check out this treasury of my fellow talented Etsygreetings team members here at www.etsygreetings.blogspot.com. Happy correspondence to all!

Autumn Wishes

Autumn Wishes

A few weeks ago, getting tired of the 95F heat, I sat down at my craft table on one hot weekend night, made sure the A/C and the fan were going – and created an autumnal-type of cards… Did it make me feel any cooler…? Nope, not really – but I did like the way the cards turned out, particularly how the colors worked together… Aparently, my friend Robin thought so too, because she snagged one of the cards as soon as she took a look at it 🙂

I am not one to use lots of embellishments and bling… Just show me something simple and i’ll be a happy camper! However, I thought that some dry embossing, a fancy ribbon and a couple of square jewels added just the right touch of pizzazz to the cards I’ve made. So, in spite of the hot weather that weekend, I’m glad my brain behaved properly 😉

Supplies are Stampin’ Up, unless otherwise noted: Cardstock More Mustard #100946, Chocolate Chip #102128, Very Vanilla #101650; Ink Chocolate Chip #100908; DSP Autumn Meadows (retired); Stamp Fancy Phrases (Waltzingmouse Stamps); Accessories Ribbon (Paper Wishes), Punch Decorative Label #120907, Embossing folder Flower Garden #123113, Rhinestones (BasicGrey).

My friend

My friend

It has been awhile since I have worked on any kind of challenge, most likely due to lack of playing time. However, when I’ve received a blog update from my friend Connie of Highdesert Stamper – Artistic Inkspirations, I was going to work on a card no matter what 😉

The challenge was to use Stampin’ Up! stamp set My friend. Now, this new stamp set is from the 2011 Idea Book & Catalog – and a fresh favorite of many stampers from what I hear… For good reason, too – I love the size of the “Hello” sentiment… LOL… The sentiment panel was created on my computer, as I could not find any Friendship quotations in any of my large collection of stamps – so I had to improvise 😉

Thank you for stopping by, and don’t forget to leave a comment!

Supplies are Stampin’ Up! unless otherwise noted: Cardstock Island Indigo #122923, Natural White #102316, Very Vanilla #101650; Stamp My friend clear #122587; Ink Island Indigo #122937; Accessories 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon in Whisper White #109070, clear jewels (Making Memories), adhesive.
